Handheld computers

My second curriculum exemplar is using handheld computers in the field of science. This technology provides a great advantage for students in the field. These handheld computers give students the opportunity to record their observations immediately, also the computing software gives them the advantage of looking for trends within the data as they record it. The handheld can be used to take snapshots or photos so after the study is field study is completed. Afterwards the photos are an accurate record of exactly what was observed in the field. Therefore, cooperative grouping within the science groups benefits all because all the information can go back to the group to be analyzed and critiqued cooperatively.

Curriculum Exemplars

My first exemplar is 'We're popping for Math'. The learning goals are data analysis and probability. This exemplar is significant because it is authentic learning. Students are learning Math with technology integration. The learning is problem based, so it challenges the students to think critically. The unit of study aims to teach children how to use data and probability to establish, maintain and profit from a popcorn business (serving popcorn to students at the school). This unit is effectively geared towards the middle school students because it will actively engage its students. Furthermore, the Cool math - Online graphing calculator will give students the ability to use a graphing calculator wherever they can log onto a computer for free. The url is www.coolmath.com/graphit/index.html.

Teaching with blogs: Review

I am energized to see that so many teachers are utilizing blogs in the classroom at the elementary level. It shows the far reach of technology. Even Kindergarteners are benefiting. I do not have immediate plans to start blogging with my five year-olds but I am optimistic that it can be done eventually. Also, my grade level are avid users of Scholastic books, and I subscribed regularly to the Scholastic News while a fifth grade teacher. The resources at Scholastic are very useful and align well with the curriculum. Furthermore, Time for Kids News is available for students as an alternative to scholastic. Also, the online site provides a feed of kids news produced by kids.

No issue is my important then protecting our children from harms way. Therefore, the safe blogging resources gives educators an opportunity to use blogging effectively without jeopardizing the safety of our children. The teachers clearly stated their blogging rules for their students.

The classroom blogs were different however they were focused on student learning. And student learning is the important matter. They included various resources throughout the blogs like blogmeister software. Nevertheless, the articles for establishing and maintaining your own blogs are meaningful. It gives us the opportunity to use blogging right away in a safe and effective manner.
